After this occurs, it may not be possible to restore normal printing function without thoroughly cleaning the print head, or replacing the printhead or printer. This is because intense heat applied to the print head nozzles in the absence of ink coolant, will cause the nozzles to overheat and become damaged. Any time the printer attempts to print where there is an absence of ink in the print head nozzles, there is a possibility of permanent damage to the printer. Inkjet ink serves two purposes: (1) the method of drawing an image onto paper, and (2) it serves as a thermal coolant for the internal nozzles in the printhead. Removing and replacing the ink cartridges prior to them being empty can also introduce air bubbles into the ink supply system. This could draw air into the ink supply system and cause an ink starvation condition in the printhead. Are you using OEM Epson branded cartridges, or generic? Did you bypass any low ink warnings? Bypassing warnings is risky because it may cause the printer to continue printing beyond the level where the ink cartridges are empty.
